Memo makes its debut at the 2011 Aging in America conference

After nearly of year of development and testing, Memo was introduced to the world of geriatrics in late April. The Aging in America conference is perhaps the largest gathering of gerontology professional and business people in the country. Sponsored by the American Society on Aging, the conference attracted 3400 attendees from a diverse field of specialists, from university researchers to policymakers to entrepreneurs.

Memo’s booth was on Technology Lane in the exhibition hall, which filled the football field-sized grand ballroom of the Hilton Union Square. Four Memos displayed various configurations from simple to complex, while a slideshow on a large-screen monitor demonstrated how Memo works. Visitors to the booth tried their hands at entering new messages and other information on the caregiver website.

Two unexpected developments emerged during the conference. First, about a third of the visitors to the booth revealed that they were interested in the Memo not only professionally, but because they had a family member with short-term memory loss and were looking for solutions for themselves. Second, representatives from assisted living facilities and home health care agencies expressed an interest in how Memos would work in their settings and whether volume discounts would be available (they are!).

Visitors to the booth suggested several new features they would like to see added to the Memo. While some of those suggestions lie beyond Memo’s intended purpose, some of them will be developed and added on as new features in the coming months.
