The CNN special Sunday night pointed out that 70% of the nation’s health care costs are the result of unhealthy behaviors: overeating, not exercising, smoking, not wearing seat belts, etc. By not taking care of our bodies, we develop diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, broken bones, arthritis, and more.
Even Alzheimers is known to be associated with a sedentary lifestyle. People who exercise regularly have a reduced risk of developing Alzheimers and other dementias. If we could just get ourselves moving and eating right, we would live longer, healthier lives and solve our budget problems at the same time!
Rising health care costs are the main budget-buster, and the growing number of baby boomers reaching old age is expected to result in overwhelming deficits. Imagine an America that is at normal weight, fit, and healthy. Health care costs would plummet, the budget problems would be solved, and we would all be happier. Let’s all stay away from that junk food and start moving!
